Nigeria is once again facing a serious security crisis after militant groups carried out coordinated attacks on military bases in the country’s northeast, leaving dozens of soldiers dead.
According to security reports, militants linked to the extremist group ISWAP launched multiple assaults on army positions across Borno State. The attackers reportedly used sophisticated weapons, including drones and anti-aircraft guns.
The attacks overran several military bases, forcing soldiers to retreat while militants seized weapons and equipment. Local sources say at least 40 soldiers were killed during the assaults, though official figures from the military remain unclear.
The violence is part of the long-running insurgency that has plagued the Lake Chad region for nearly two decades. The conflict has displaced more than two million people and continues to threaten communities across northeastern Nigeria.
Security experts warn that the increasing use of advanced weaponry by militant groups suggests the insurgency may be entering a more dangerous phase.
The Nigerian government has vowed to intensify military operations to regain control of affected areas and protect civilians.
However, many Nigerians remain worried about the persistent security challenges that continue to affect daily life in several parts of the country.
