Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has stirred intense reactions on social media after sharing a strongly worded message condemning polygamy and what she referred to as “husband snatching”.
In a lengthy post shared via her Instagram page @ritaedochie, the actress argued that the history of polygamy shows that “99 and a half percent” of such unions end in emotional pain rather than peace. According to her, no lasting good ever comes out of a polygamous home, describing it as a setting filled with continuous heartbreak.
Rita Edochie expressed concern over women who publicly applaud polygamy, stating that no responsible married woman would support such a practice. She explained that women who built their marriages from scratch with their husbands understand what is at stake and would never clap for polygamy or support women who take another woman’s husband.
The actress further alleged that women who endorse polygamy or husband snatching either do not have husbands, are unhappy in their marriages, or are involved in similar acts themselves. She insisted that such support is often used to justify morally wrong behaviour.
Describing the practice as destructive, Rita Edochie labelled those involved as “evil people” and “home breakers”, stressing that only individuals who engage in such actions would find reasons to defend them.
She concluded her post by greeting her followers warmly, referring to them as “great lovers of Rita Edochie”, and wished them a good evening while asking how their day’s sermon went.
