Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has hosted former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, alongside former governors of Osun State, Omo Oba Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, at the commissioning of the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital at Osun State University, Osogbo.
The governor disclosed the development in a post shared on his verified Instagram page, @aadeleke_01, where he described the event as a landmark moment for the state and for medical education in Africa. The commissioning ceremony was also attended by the Chancellor of Osun State University, Apostle (Dr) Folorunso Alakija, and her husband, Baba Modupe Folarin Alakija, who built and donated the medical facility to the university.
According to Adeleke, the world-class hospital represents a historic milestone for Osun State, noting that it will serve as a hub for medical training, research, and advanced healthcare delivery, while setting a new benchmark for Nigeria and the African continent.
The governor commended the leadership of Osun State University, traditional rulers—particularly the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, Larooye II—and other stakeholders whose support, including the donation of land, made the project a reality.
He expressed appreciation to the Alakija family on behalf of the government and people of Osun State, stating that the facility would save lives, train future medical professionals, and demonstrate the vital role of philanthropy in complementing government efforts in education and healthcare.
