Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has marked the 10th anniversary of his release from prison, reflecting on the four years he says were unjustly taken from him and expressing gratitude for the progress he has made since regaining his freedom.
He shared the reflection on his Instagram page, noting that he walked out of the German Gate of the prison yard on November 30, 2015, after being discharged by Justice Mabel Omovie of the Delta State High Court, Asaba.
In his post, Gwamnishu described the period of incarceration as a defining chapter that shaped his resilience. He stated that the day he stepped out of prison marked the beginning of a new phase in his life—one where he found his voice, discovered renewed purpose and refused to be broken by his experiences.
The activist was recentlhonoureded at an event held at The Cenotaph in Asaba, where he received a recognition plaque for his advocacy work and contributions to social justice. Images from the event showed him receiving the award, addressing the audience and sharing emotional moments with supporters.
Gwamnishu expressed appreciation to God for sustaining him throughout the ordeal and to his parents for their constant prayers and unwavering belief in his eventual freedom. He also thanked everyone who supported him, stood by him and lifted him in prayer over the years, saying their encouragement helped him remain steadfast long after leaving the prison yard.
