Social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has apologised after engaging in an in-flight brawl with media personality Freedom Atsepoyi, also known as Mr Jollof, onboard a United Nigerian Airlines flight on Monday, November 17.
Both men, who are sworn enemies and have had multiple clashes on social media—including one currently in court—were seen exchanging blows inside the aircraft shortly before takeoff. The altercation caused panic among passengers and led to a delay in the flight’s departure.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday, VDM admitted the incident was unnecessary and unacceptable, stating that he regretted his behaviour. He apologised to parents, children, the pilot, and the flight crew who were affected by the disruption. “I would really like to apologise for what happened yesterday on the United Nigerian Airlines. What happened yesterday was not supposed to happen, and I will take full responsibility for it,” he said.
VDM highlighted that many passengers had urgent appointments, medical emergencies, or business engagements that could have been jeopardised due to the delay caused by his actions. “A lot of people on that flight had important things to do, but because of that little irresponsibility from my end, their flight was delayed. Some people might have had medical emergencies, and some had business contracts to sign. I don’t know what that little delay would have cost them, and I really want to apologise,” he added.
Speaking further, he expressed disappointment in himself, noting that although some online viewers treated the fight as entertainment, he recognised that he behaved irresponsibly.
He admitted that tensions between himself and Mr Jollof may continue but assured that any future confrontation would not occur in a public space that could disrupt innocent people. “I cannot guarantee that it will not happen again. I can only guarantee that it will not happen on the plane, on the bus, or in a public place that will stop people from going to their destination. But I am really, really sorry for yesterday,” he stated.
