Popular human rights activist and founder of the Safe City Volunteer Foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, has publicly accused some police officers of diverting ransom funds that were meant to be returned to victims of kidnapping.
In a strongly worded statement shared on Instagram, Gwamnishu stated that despite his tireless work to ensure that kidnapping victims either get their money back or that their abductors face justice, some of the police officers he had collaborated with recently displayed greed and corruption.
He explained that funds he helped recover for victims had been diverted, and the officers were tendering amounts far below what was originally recovered. Consequently, he announced the suspension of all collaborations between his foundation and the police until a full account of the recovered ransom funds is provided.
Gwamnishu warned that if the full amount and vehicles are not returned to the victims by the weekend, he will expose the officers involved publicly on social media.
He stressed that his team will no longer risk their safety while rogue officers exploit victims, adding that Ejemizu Chidozie Peters can verify his claims should any attempt be made to intimidate or silence him.
