Another day, another tragedy hits the Plateau State. If you thought the tension was cooling off, you were absolutely wrong. Five people have been confirmed dead in a nasty reprisal attack that has thrown the entire Kwi community into chaos.
This latest bloodshed happened right in Riyom Local Government Area, and the story behind it is just unbelievable.
It Started With Cows
According to reports, the whole wahala started with livestock. Yes, you heard that right—cows!
It was Thursday evening when everything went south. Suspected armed youths, believed to be militias, stormed the grazing areas in Kwi. They didn't come to play; they came to destroy. They opened fire on livestock belonging to Fulani herders.
We are talking about more than a dozen cows that were instantly killed. Several others were left wounded with both gunshot and deep machete cuts. The damage was huge, and the herders were left reeling from the loss.
The Midnight Counter-Attack
Now, you know how these things go in Nigeria. When you strike, expect a counter-strike, and this time it was swift and deadly.
Later that same night, the community suffered a brutal reprisal attack. Security sources confirmed that this counter-attack was directly linked to the earlier killing of the cattle.
By the time the dust settled and the attackers left, five innocent lives had been wiped out in the same area. It’s a painful price to pay for a conflict that started over cows.
Residents Fleeing for Safety
Right now, the tension in Kwi community is thicker than Nigerian jollof rice. Residents are terrified! They are grabbing their belongings and fleeing their homes just to find safety. Nobody wants to be the next victim.
Thankfully, our gallant troops from Operation Safe Haven have been deployed to the area, alongside other security agencies. Their job now is to restore peace and make sure this madness doesn't spread further.
It's a tragic reminder of how fragile peace is in our nation. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.
