Nigeria is currently buzzing, and the air is thick with tension! Just when we thought we had moved past the era of military takeovers, bombshell reports dropped over the weekend, alleging a massive plot against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to explosive reports circulating online, a group of high-ranking military officers were involved in a serious conspiracy. And guess what? The reports claim they were all military personnel and were allegedly being led by a powerful General!
This is not a Nollywood movie, people. This is real life drama!
The Arrests: Indiscipline or Insurrection?
The core of this shocking saga revolves around the detention of several officers.
Remember those earlier reports where the military announced that about 16 officers were arrested for "issues of indiscipline"? Well, sources speaking to some major online platforms are singing a completely different tune.
They claim those arrests had nothing to do with mere indiscipline. Instead, the real reason was far more sinister: Coup Plotting!
Imagine the audacity! A General, officers, and a plan to rock the foundations of our democracy. This story shook the entire country to its core and sent shivers down the spine of every politician in Abuja.
DHQ Drops The Hammer: “It Is Totally False!”
Of course, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had to step in quickly to calm the burning fire. They were not having it!
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, wasted no time in releasing a strong statement to debunk the entire rumour.
In summary? The DHQ insisted that the claims were "entirely false."
They stated categorically that there was no coup-related detention or plan within the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). General Gusau maintained that the military remains totally committed to protecting and sustaining democracy in Nigeria.
They basically told the rumour mongers to take a seat!
Why This Matters To You
So, what is the truth? Is a General truly in detention for treason, or is this just another case of exaggerated online reporting creating unnecessary panic?
The military says it's fake news, but the sources insist the arrests were real and the motive was a coup. The fact remains that in a country like Nigeria, where coup d'états are a part of our history, even a rumour like this can spike tension and worry every Nigerian citizen.
We must all remain vigilant, trust in our democratic institutions, and hope that our military remains loyal to the constitution.
