The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is ramping up security ahead of its 2025 elective national convention set to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State. To ensure a smooth and hitch-free convention, the party has inaugurated a *Security Sub-Committee*. This group has been tasked with overseeing safety measures and coordinating closely with security agencies to maintain peace throughout the event.
The sub-committee had its inaugural meeting in Abuja, with representatives of the National Convention Organising Committee present. Senator Austin Akobundu stood in for Col. Agbu Kefas, while Tanimu Turaki (SAN) represented the committee.
The PDP emphasized that members were carefully selected based on their experience in security matters. Their responsibilities include securing the venue, monitoring for threats, and providing real-time updates to relevant authorities.
Senator Akobundu noted that without proper security, the success of the convention could be compromised. He stressed the need for collaboration among all stakeholders. Tanimu Turaki assured that the committee would receive full support from the main organising body to carry out its task effectively.
As the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, the outcome of this convention and how well it is managed will play a crucial role in shaping its credibility.
