There's a major shakeup happening in Akwa Ibom's academic world. Ritman University in Ikot Ekpene has just ushered in a brand new leader, and the man for the job is none other than the brilliant Professor Akan Williams!

He’s officially stepping up as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the reputable institution.


Meet the New Boss


If you are wondering who this academic heavyweight is, here’s the scoop: Prof. Williams is a top-tier Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry. That's right, a chemistry guru is now running the show!


He takes over the mantle of leadership from Professor Celestine Ntuen, who served as the university’s pioneer VC. Talk about big shoes to fill!


23 Years of Pure Academic Fire!


During the inauguration ceremony, which went down last Friday, we got a peek at his impressive CV. This man has been cooking up academic excellence for over 23 years in the Nigerian university system.


He climbed the ranks, proving his worth every step of the way, and was officially announced as a full Professor of Chemistry back in December 2017. With that kind of experience, you know Ritman is in good hands!


Not Just a One-Man Show!


Professor Williams isn’t the only new face in the top management team. Ritman University is getting a full power-up!

Deaconess Faith Emmanuel is the new substantive Registrar.

Dr. Joseph U. Igligli has taken office as the second substantive University Librarian.

It’s a whole new team ready to take the university to the next level!


The Visitor Speaks: "Consolidate the Gains!"


The University Visitor, Senator Emmanuel Ibok-Essien, made sure to give props to the outgoing team for their dedicated service.


But he didn't stop there. He threw his full weight behind the new management. He expressed total confidence, saying he hopes and believes Prof. Williams and his team will "consolidate on the gains already made" and push the university's vision forward.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Williams was all gratitude and big promises. He thanked everyone for the massive confidence shown in him.


He then pledged to firmly uphold the university's core values, aligning with their powerful motto: "Building Knowledge for Development."
