Canada-based Nigerian emergency room physician Arinze Onwumelu, popularly known as @official_doctor_zo on Instagram, has sparked widespread discussion after raising concern over the increasing divorce rate among immigrant couples in the United States.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, the physician reflected on events from 22 years ago, recalling how many of his friends in the US were eager for him to marry a nurse, believing it was the best path to success abroad. However, he chose to marry his school girlfriend, who is a lawyer. According to him, today, about 85 per cent of those friends are now divorced.

Dressed in a white designer T-shirt and speaking in a calm, reflective tone, he questioned the reasons behind the sudden collapse of those marriages, asking viewers, “What happened?” in an attempt to start a larger conversation on the issue.
