Shock in Imo: Gunmen Kill U.S. Returnee, Kidnap His Wife

 


Tragedy struck in Umuguma, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, as a U.S.-based Nigerian soldier was killed and his wife abducted by armed assailants. 


Fatal Ambush During Land Transaction 


The victim, originally from Ihiala in Anambra State, had returned to Nigeria and was in the process of purchasing land near Golden Estate/Abba Father Avenue in Umuguma. Accompanied by his wife and land agents, he arrived at the site in a Toyota Highlander SUV. According to eyewitnesses, masked gunmen—suspected to be herdsmen—ambushed the group. 


In the chaos, the soldier attempted to flee but was fatally shot in the head. The assailants abducted his wife and escaped into a nearby forest. The land agents managed to escape with injuries and later reported the incident to the police. 


Police Launch Investigation 


Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident. He stated that Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has directed the Owerri Area Commander to conduct a thorough investigation. As of now, there has been no communication regarding the whereabouts of the abducted woman. 


Community on Edge Amid Rising Insecurity 


The incident has heightened fears among residents of Umuguma and neighboring communities, including Irete, Nekede, Avu, Amakohia-Ubi, Okuku, and Ndiegwu. Security agencies are urging the public to exercise caution in their dealings and to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
